incantation

tears of heaven flooding the earth
and I lay still and try
to cry

so scared of the devil inside
I can run but he can hide

there is a dark side on the inside of the moon
as well—where the sun don’t shine
and I lay still as a wooden box
floating on a heavenly flood

too scared of the devils inside
who cannot run I cannot hide

and to the sound of raindrops do I sing
my song my song of solomon
my song of solo man

the clipped wings fell down like snow
the winged things a longer time ago
dropped from the sky unto the ground
with a familiar pounding sound

thump thump
thump thump

in a heartbeat
angels die
and I
listen to the battering ram in my chest
trying to break free
there are devils inside
inside of me
who can’t run yet
who ceased to hide
